The Story of a Traditional Craft Village Slowly Fading Away
Every Vietnamsilkstudio quilt begins in a traditional Vietnamese silk village where artisans have practiced silk-making for generations.
From the peaceful village of Hong Phong in Vu Thu – where mulberry farming, silkworm raising, and silk weaving have flourished for over four centuries – the craft of Nam Cao silk has long been shaped by the patience and dedication of generations of artisans. Yet, amid the rapid changes of modern life, the village once faced a period of decline, when only a few families remained, quietly preserving the craft as the sound of looms faded around them.
It was their perseverance that laid the foundation for the remarkable revival of Nam Cao silk. The looms began to sing again, and the rustic, naturally textured duoi silk – imbued with Vietnamese spirit – returned, crafted with both the masterful hands of artisans and the creativity of a new generation.
Vietnamsilkstudio was founded with the desire to become a bridge between these cherished traditions and the world. We honor every thread and every weave, treating each piece as a cultural story told through Vietnamese craftsmanship.
